About Session

As the influence of debt capital markets continues to grow, bondholders are increasingly stepping into their roles as active partners in advancing transparency, accountability, and positive impact. Co-authored by Community Capital Management and Veris Wealth Partners, the Bondholder Engagement Approach provides a comprehensive framework for navigating the unique regulatory and legal landscape of fixed-income advocacy.

This session will provide an update on the progress of ICCR’s multi-year bondholder initiative, transitioning from framework development to real-world implementation. We will dive deep into four pilot engagements recently identified by our Planet and Social Justice subgroups and approved by the Working Group. Participants will gain insights into the strategic rationale and objectives behind these inaugural efforts, including:

  • PNC Community Impact Continuity Pilot: An evaluation of social bond integrity and the continuity of community impact as PNC transitions from its multi-year Community Benefits Plan.
  • Agency Affordable Housing Engagement Pilot: A focus on how recent FHFA policy shifts and housing goals impact transparency and equitable mortgage access at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.
  • Microsoft Pilot: Multiple focus areas – renewable energy procurement, energy storage strategy, data center siting and water usage
  • NexERA Pilot: Multiple focus areas – net zero targets & climate transition plan, decarbonization strategies & renewable energy expansion, and policy related to AI data centers.

ICCR members with exposure to fixed-income portfolios can join engagement dialogues with issuers and utilize newly developed toolkits to expand their impact beyond equity holdings. Join us to explore how bondholders are shaping markets to reflect long-term sustainability and community well-being.
